TCU Student Disabilities Services


The Student Disabilities Services Coordinator and/or designee and the Disabilities Services Documentation Review Committee determine reasonable and appropriate services and accommodations for eligible Texas Christian University students. The University complies with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act by providing reasonable accommodations for students with verified disabilities.


The Coordinator and/or designee helps students with disabilities by providing the following:

  • Access—offering the opportunity to fully participate in college while maintaining confidentiality about a student’s specific disability.
  • Accommodations—ensuring physical or academic adjustments that allow a student with a disability equal access to the University’s programs.
  • Alliance—providing letters to inform faculty of student rights; reminding students of faculty rights; teaching students to self-advocate; and being a liaison if difficulties are encountered.
  • Assistance—obtaining reasonable accommodations and services; understanding the disability; finding resources; obtaining assistive or adaptive technology.

Confidential student disabilities documentation is securely maintained in the Student Disabilities Services office located in the Center for Academic Services. Disabilities documentation is kept apart from the student’s TCU academic record. Confidentiality of information and documentation is maintained by the Coordinator and the Coordinator’s designee.


To determine reasonable accommodations, the Coordinator and/or designee will analyze the student’s documentation, review the relevant regulations of the federal laws, and interview the student. Then the Coordinator’s and/or designee's summary and recommendations are submitted to the Student Disabilities Services Documentation Review Committee. Upon approval by the Student Disabilities Services Documentation Review Committee, accommodation letters are prepared by the Coordinator and/or designee. The student must schedule an appointment with each professor to deliver accommodation letters and to discuss specific implementation concerns. An interactive process is absolutely essential and relies on the student’s initiative. This process also allows the faculty to meet the student and for concerns to be addressed. During the appointment, the faculty member will sign a Verification Receipt Form which the student will return to the Coordinator and/or designee, ensuring the interactive process continues.




The Coordinator and/or designee will provide resource materials and sources for assistance to any person seeking information about disability related issues. Resources are updated frequently on such topics as Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder; physical, mental health, and learning disabilities; accessibility, service providers, and adaptive technology; legislation and legal issues; study skills and assessment strategies.
